Part One: This prophecy is concerning Edom, who is Esau. We learned in Genesis of Esau’s place in God’s great plan – Esau is the twin brother of Jacob, and just as Jacob depicted the spiritual man so Esau depicted the man after the flesh. Jacob showed us the spiritual nature, Esau showed us the nature of flesh. Esau was the hunter, the man who served his belly… READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY…

Part Two: This is a prophecy against religious flesh. The heathen are seen to be called to rise up against Edom, showing a distinction in mankind. The heathen are here those without the gospel, atheistic lands, who are called to rise up against the so-called Christian nations… READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY…

Part Three: This prophecy is one of complete doom, of woe upon woe. (”How art thou cut off!”) It is an exclamation, as though the prophet for a moment caught a glimpse of the immensity of the disaster. It is in contrast to the high living of the previous verses, the exaltation and the pride symbolised by the eagle and the stars. “How are the things of Esau searched out! how are his hidden things sought up!” As long as we were a God-fearing people God honored us… READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY…

Part Four: “And thy mighty men, O Teman, shall be dismayed.” Faced with the frightfulness of the fall of Esau, even the mighty are dismayed. “O Teman” is God’s ancient name for the creature man. Part Five: Remember how once we allied ourselves with all that is spiritual, how we were on the Lord’s side, how we upheld the Cross, and how we acknowledged the Saviour of the world? To-day we are on the other side, we have put ourselves apart from Christ, we have disassociated ourselves from the Cross. God sees us now as Edom… READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY…

Part Six: The day of their calamity is the day Christ died. Remember God sees us now as Edom. “Even though thou wast as one of them.” ‘Israel’ represents only the children of God, born of the Spirit, getting their life from the Cross of Christ. Esau represents only the natural man. Edom is bloody. We were quick to take the benefits of the peace with God so sorely won for us at Calvary… READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY…

Part Seven: “For the day of the Lord is near upon all the heathen.” God will now shift His operations to the “heathen” nations, bringing them into conflict with Edom. And to us He says, “As thou hast done, it shall be done unto thee.” Can we not look back and recall what we have done? So be it done unto us likewise, at the hand of the “heathen.”… READ THE REST OF THIS ENTRY…

Part Eight: Today man boasts in the number of the things which he possesses, without realizing that God can redistribute and leave him with nothing. Look at these two verses in Obadiah – they shall possess, possess, possess. They shall take over the mount of Esau, and God’s wisdom shall rule in place of man’s thinking….
