“And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood and fire and pillars of smoke.” Some of us know of these things, but all may see that we are freed from the bondage of sin and death, led out of Egypt, baptized, and brought out and separated to worship our God. God has wrought wonders in Egypt in every generation spiritually as He once did physically by the hand of Moses. We follow the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night. And it all began with the death of the Firstborn. But there is coming a day when Christ shall return, and the prophecy be fulfilled literally – “the sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord come.” If Christ be Crucified, if Christ be entombed, if Christ be raised from among the dead, if Christ be ascended, then Christ will return. For if so much prophecy be already fulfilled, it is unreasonable to suppose that the remainder may not come to pass. Yes, the Lord is coming soon, this time coming in glory with the holy angels to receive us unto Himself. So shall we ever be with the Lord. The Spirit given is the earnest of our inheritance. And Joel concludes with a message to whosoever will. “And it shall come to pass,” he says in the last verse, “that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and in the remnant whom the Lord shall call.” Save yourselves, Peter urged, from this untoward generation. Because “they” are going to hell, does not mean that you must go to hell. Whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. A remnant was saved even in Peter’s day. Listen to the remnant rather than to the majority. Accept the glorious gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Refuse not the doctrine of the apostles. Receive the infilling of the Holy Spirit whereby we are sealed unto the day of redemption. And worship God in spirit and in truth, acknowledging His greatness. O Lord, how great Thou art!
